Awesome day skiing - nice to have a great photographer :-)

The UN Declaration of Human Rights (1948) states “...Whereas disregard and contempt for human rights have resulted in barbarous acts which have outraged the conscience of mankind... All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.”

In what I expect to be a controversial post, I want to share my disagreement and opposition to the celebrations of Osama Bin Laden’s death and the manner in which his body was disposed. To be clear, his intentions and acts caused harm in the world.  But, regardless of his profile/history/legacy, he was a human being. I believe its incumbent on us to act in a way that respects the fellowship of man. It’s a life and soul lost.

This email was in response to my brother, sister and parents email about what they are doing and whats happening around them. My brother thought this was an inspiring share - nice of him to say so. My sister said I should write for a sports magazine - she thinks its fun to read. The girl I"m missing (J) was happy that I shared this with her. Cool.

......"Well, my news has no:

1. New cars – of course, I don’t have a car, but agree that making payments after being free of them is an adjustment that doesn’t feel good at all. For what its worth, my new bike is worth 10 times what my red car was, still runs out of gas when I do, is helping me reduce my carbon footprint and keeps me skinny.

2. Camps for kids - I don’t have any kids – I can see that the amount of work you have to do to get them into camps that inspire both them and you is huge and fraught with uncertainty – will they like it or not, will they find some new friends, how will the teachers/counselors be, etc.

3. Photos - my camera has been in my bag for a long time

4. And my email is......well, still working. No employer is cutting me off from a way to stay in touch with/take care of/manage a busy life outside of work. I feel disheartened by the number and random nature of the obstacles that keep our lives from moving along easily. What about you?

However, I have been building decks, painting fences, cutting lawns, landscaping yards, cleaning out garages, helping the neighbors next door, feeding kids, ferrying kids to friends houses, teaching them to unicycle, do flips and can openers off diving boards, listening to stories of miss-communication and watching the distrust it creates, witnessing how the relentless pressure on kids to be perfect crumbles them, drinking booster juices (very yummy fresh fruit smoothies), filming and recording a strangers vacation, scaring myself on mountain bike trails that are really easy when I’m skiing on them, missing a girl.

That’s about it from this corner of the world.

I didn't get any response to my question about being disheartened by the number and random nature of obstacles that keep us from living easily. That comment/question was in response to my sisters employer deciding to block outgoing emails.

Here's a WTF - Who, after a million years of emails (ok maybe not a million years), thinks that anyone who works should not be allowed to take care of family and personal business during the work day using it. What other time is there? Surely you can't call your dentist at 630am to make an appointment as you commute to work? When/how should they get back to you? What about sending a msg to the guy fixing your home appliances - I'm betting you can't catch him while he's there - at 700pm when you get home. How can they let you know what needs fixing - you know that they can do it today but they need you to approve the work, but hey, they can't email you a quote and have you approve via return mail. Hm, maybe they can come back to your place later, maybe tomorrow or the next day? Surely you're their only client. How about organizing your kids' car pooling, sleep overs, after school "play dates" (who came up with "play date" and more perplexing - why did it stick?)

The upside of this, of course, is that you can call everyone, reestablishing talking to people as the way to get things done. Now that is a good thing. I like talking to people, making a connection, helping people and letting people help me. Feels good to do it, feels good to get it. So, I figure, give out your numbers to everyone. Talk. Leave msgs. Get called back. share your day(s) with someone.

Peace

Ok, so I'm new to this blogging thing.

I figured that since I got onto FB &Twitter without too much trouble, I'd give the blogging thang a try too. I going to spend as much time here as I need to see what happens. I see this as evolving, so for now, there are no limts/boundaries.

Welcome to this space.
